THE SOCIETY HAS TILL NOW ORGANIZED 11 NATIONAL SYMPOSIUMS AND ONE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM. THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS.

The Indian Society of Coastal Agricultural Research in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar organized 11th National Symposium on ‘Innovations in Coastal Agriculture – Current Status and Potentials under Changing Environment’’ during January 14-17, 2016 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar (Odisha). Major sub-themes under discussion were

Major Themes

    1. Innovations in soil, water and crop management for enhancing production in coastal region.
    2. Advancement in field, horticultural and plantation crops and forestry for coastal areas
    3. Innovative management of aquaculture, livestock and allied activities for enhancing farm income.
    4. Transfer of technology, livelihoods improvement, women empowerment and impacts.
    5. Disaster management in agriculture with special reference to cyclone in Odisha.

ISCAR organized its 10th National Symposium on 'Managing Natural Resources for Enhancing Agricultural & Allied Productivity in Coastal Region under Changing Climate' being held from 11-14th December, 2013 at CSSRI, RRS, Bharuch with the major sub-themes on-

    1. Advances in soil, water and crop management for enhancing production in coastal region.
    2. Recent advancement in field, horticultural and plantation crops and forestry for coastal areas
    3. Advanced management of aquaculture, livestock and allied activities for enhancing farm income.
    4. Emerging ecological threat, mitigation measures and coastal forestry management.
    5. Transfer of technology, livelihoods improvement and impacts. Coastal saline Vertisols– problems and perspectives with special reference to Gujarat

Around 80 delegates participated in the Symposium across the country and Bangladesh.

The seminar was held on the major topics of Genesis, Characterisation & Inventory of Coastal Soils including Acid Sulphate soils & its Management, Water Management & Drainage for Coastal Soils, Management of Plantation Crops & its Diversified Uses, Crop Management & Value Addition of Alternate Uses, Advances in Animal Husbandry including Dairy for Improved Economy, Recent Advances in Aquaculture; Forest Plantation as Wind Breaks and Technology Transfer & Changing Socio-economic Scenario.

Strategies for Improved Farming and Ecological Security of Coastal Region

8th National Seminar on Strategies for Improved Farming and Ecological Security of Coastal Region Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) in 2005.
The seminar was held on the major topics of Inventorisation and integrated management of soil and water resources, advanced research in nutrient and crop management including horticulture & plantation crops & their utilization, State-of-art technologies for higher production in aquaculture and animal husbandry including integrated farming system, Mangroves, forests, agroforestry and ecological security, Integrated farming with resource recycling and extension initiatives for sustainable economy. There was also a special brainstorming session on Natural disasters vis-à-vis stability of coastal economy with special reference to the recent Tsunami.

Recent Outlook on Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood Security and Ecology of Coastal Region

Organised 9th National symposium on 'Recent Outlook on Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood Security and Ecology of Coastal Region' in collaboration with Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra and Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal. The symposium held at Palmarinha Resort and Suites, Porbawaddo Calangute, Goa from October, 27-30, 2010 with the major sub-themes on

1. Advances in sustainable soil, water and crop management for enhancing crop productivity
2. Crop improvement through traditional and cutting edge technologies for agricultural, horticultural and plantation crops
3. Advances in management of aquaculture, livestock and allied activities
4. Transfer of technology, value addition and marketing for improved livelihood security
5. Ecological threats of the coastal region, adaptation strategies for mitigation and management of coastal forestry.

Recent innovations on livelihood improvement with special reference to coastal region of Maharashtra and Goa. More than 300 delegates participated in the Symposium.

International Symposium on Management of Coastal Ecosystem: Technological Advancement and Livelihood Security held in Kolkata (West Bengal) in 2007

The International Symposium was held under 12 technical sessions in 5 sub-themes: Sustainable Development of Coastal Areas through Agriculture and Allied Activities; Coastal Disaster Management for Improved Livelihood Security; Wetland Management, Mangroves and Agro-forestry; Oceanography, Coastal Energy and Information Technology ;and IPR, Coastal policy. Delegates from 70 National Institutes and Universities and several Institutes from abroad were attended the International Symposium. In different technical sessions there were 65 papers both invited and voluntary contribution for oral presentation and 85 voluntary papers for poster presentation.
